Charlie Day - Garden Designer

London-based designer Charlie Day studied for his diploma in garden design at Guildford College before moving to Wiltshire to work for a small but busy firm thattook on large landscape projects in private gardens around Wiltshire, Oxfordshireand Gloucestershire.

Within the varied landscapes, he got his teeth stuck into designing kitchen and walled gardens, landscaping parkland’s and avenues, boathouses, water gardens and tennis courts as well as more intricate designs such as tree houses, grottos.

The changing landscapes of his life have played a great part in inspiring Charlie’s garden career. Shortly after beginning life in Donegal Ireland, his family moved to Kenya where he lived and was schooled until the age of thirteen, along the way notably taking an avid interest in the natural world around him. Back in the UK, his secondary school career started in Wiltshire and ended in Perth, Scotland, and after excelling at art, he left school and travelled to Italy to study sculpture at The Florence Academy. During four years sculpting between Florence and Rome, Charlie compiled a great library of sketchbooks of the scenery around him, including countless beautifulI talianate gardens and grottos, which are often a source of inspiration today.

Returning to Northern Ireland working as a freelance sculptor Charlie also worked part time for a land agent visiting estates and managing the arable land as well as the woodlands.

Finding his affinity with nature too strong a pull to ignore, he enrolled in a gardendesign course near London in 2008, moved to Wiltshire to gain his experience with a garden design firm, before wanting a further challenge and setting his sights for London where he set up Charlie Day Gardens, a design and maintenance firm.

Vinnie Hedley - Project manager

Having run her own successful jewellery business since 2003 and worked part time as the Personal Assistant to an interior designer 2008-2010 and a property developer 2010-2014, it only seemed a natural progression for Vinnie to join her brother, Charlie, as the Project Manager in 2014.  Vinnie brings her organisational, book keeping and also creative skills to the business thus supporting Charlie wholeheartedly on his projects both in London and further afield.

With her Irish routes and African upbringing, Vinnie developed an early love of nature: trees in particular and this is shown clearly through her organic jewellery designs and now with her obvious input into Charlie’s business.  With Charlie’s practical and technical mind as well as his ability to visualise and drawup all kinds of different gardens on the computer and on paper, Vinnie and Charlie make a great team and are happy to help on any size of garden design project.
