Charlie Day - Garden Designer

London-based landscape Garden Designer Charlie Day studied for his diploma in garden design in 2008 at Merrist Wood College under Andrew Wilson before moving to Wiltshire to work for a firm that took on large landscape projects in private gardens in the West Country before wanting a further challenge and setting his sights for London where he set up Charlie Day Gardens, a landscape design and garden maintenance firm designing kitchen and walled gardens, landscaping parklands and avenues as well as more intricate designs such as tree houses, grottos and vegetable gardens.

The changing landscapes of his life have played a great part in inspiring Charlie’s garden career. Shortly after beginning life in Donegal Ireland, his family moved to Kenya where he lived and was schooled until the age of thirteen, along the way notably taking an avid interest in the natural world around him.

Back in the UK, his secondary school career started in Wiltshire and ended in Perth, Scotland, and after excelling at art, he left school and travelled to Italy to study sculpture at The Florence Academy. During 4 years sculpting between Florence and Rome, Charlie compiled a great library of sketchbooks of the scenery around him, including countless beautiful Italianate gardens & grottos, which are often a source of inspiration today.

Returning to Northern Ireland working as a freelance sculptor Charlie also worked part time for a land agent visiting estates and managing the arable land as well as the woodlands.
